Benefits of Aromatherapy Candles for Stress Relief

Aromatherapy is a prominent part of many alternative lifestyles, along with being a form of alternative medicine in its own right. It is believed by many to offer a wide variety of beneficial effects. Many people look to the ability of various scents to trigger the body's immune system response, or to otherwise aid in the healing process with regards to many different health conditions. Few disagree, however, that the most immediate benefit to aromatherapy is the relief of stress and anxiety. In western culture, one of the most popular methods for realizing these effects is through the use of scented candles, particularly those which are made from non-toxic, all-natural ingredients.

Aromatherapy Candles for Relief of Stress and Anxiety

Did you know that our sense of smell is more strongly tied to memory than sight or hearing? This is part of why we have such an instinctive aversion to bad smells; they're subconsciously associated with negative events. Good smells don't simply “associate” with good memories, however. They help to form new neural connections with existing positive experiences, making them more easy to recall. Have you ever spent a long time around a scent you really enjoyed, and felt really good about everything for hours afterward? Not simply “happy,” in a general sense, but specifically better about various aspects of life in general – things which might have been weighing you down beforehand? Aromatherapy candles encourage this overall feeling of positivity. They also help to trigger the release of dopamine in our brains, making the experience of smelling a fragrant, naturally scented candle that much more pleasant. The result is a positive mindset, a reduction in personal anxiety, and the overall relief of ongoing causes of stress. It's safe, all-natural, non-addicting, and it takes advantage of how your brain is wired to work naturally: in other words, the effects won't be reduced or diminished over time.

Aromatherapy candles make for a natural alternative to many over the counter medications, such as constantly taking Tylenol for stress-induced headaches. Those simply cover up the symptoms behind the pain. Allowing yourself to indulge in a relaxing activity for as little as one hour per day, while enjoying the scent of your aromatherapy candle, can help to put you in a more positive state of mind – one that, with time, will reduce the accumulated effects of life-induced stress enormously.

The Benefits of Soy

So far as we know, there is no specific health benefit to inhaling the scent of a candle made with soy wax – as opposed to those made from any other form of wax. There are a few points which are worth taking into consideration, however: soy wax is made from the soybean, so it's carbon neutral. Paraffin wax, one of the most common candle components in existence today, is petroleum-based. Soy wax also has a lower melting point than paraffin wax; this contributes to the release of its scent in a stronger, yet not overwhelming fashion. This can be far more relaxing, as it remains a smooth and pleasurable experience overall.

Finally, we can say with certainty what soy isn't: it isn't artificially preserved, with chemical additives of uncertain origin or effects. While there are additives which can be used to raise the melting point of soy wax, most are all-natural substances... such as mineral oil. Taken together, all of these various factors make it easy to see why soy candles comprise a rapidly growing share of the aromatherapy products sold all across the country today. We currently offer three different aromatherapy candles. You can pick up Rose, Jasmine, or Lavender from our store today.
